Union Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan chaired a high-level meeting in Delhi on Monday (September 01, 2025) to review the resolution of complaints received from farmers through call centres and other portals.
He directed officials to develop a single dedicated portal for handling complaints, suggestions and assistance, replacing the existing multiple portals to ensure faster and more efficient grievance redressal. The Minister also assured that he would personally monitor the complaints to ensure timely action and relief to farmers.
Chouhan emphasised that there should be no delay in addressing farmers’ concerns and called for transparency, credibility and sensitivity in the process. He noted that a significant number of complaints pertain to substandard fertilisers, seeds and pesticides. Highlighting the urgency of the matter, he instructed officials to prioritise such complaints and work closely with state governments to prevent the sale of spurious products.
He said protecting farmers from being exploited is a top priority and stressed the need for strict enforcement measures. Letters have already been sent to chief ministers, and the Minister announced that he would soon hold video conferences with state officials to further address the issue.
Union Minister expressed serious concern over the sale of illegal biostimulants and reiterated that only the 146 notified products should be allowed in the market. He directed officials to ensure strict compliance, create awareness among farmers and circulate the list of approved biostimulants through social media channels.
He also reviewed complaints related to instalments under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme and claims under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, directing that every such grievance be resolved promptly and farmers contacted for feedback to ensure their satisfaction.
During the meeting, Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi shared his suggestions to further streamline grievance resolution. An important resolution was also adopted to promote the use of indigenous products (Swadeshi) in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call and Minister Chouhan’s appeal. All officials, along with Chouhan, pledged to incorporate Swadeshi products into their daily lives to the maximum possible extent.
