Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday assured that farmers who suffered heavy losses to soybean crops due to excessive rainfall will be compensated under the crop insurance scheme. He said a detailed survey will be conducted soon to assess the damage and ensure that every affected farmer receives timely support.

During his visit to Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh on October 6, Chouhan attended a programme at the Bilkisganj Krishi Upaj Mandi, where he interacted with farmers and women beneficiaries. The minister distributed benefits under various government schemes, inspected exhibitions and visited a health camp organised by local institutions.

Addressing the gathering, Chouhan said, “Everyone lives for themselves, but a true life is lived in the service of the people, society, and the nation. We will leave no stone unturned in serving our people.” He urged women attending the health camp to undergo full medical check-ups and assured them of free treatment if any illness was detected.

Union Minister also highlighted several flagship schemes aimed at improving rural livelihoods, particularly for women. Describing the ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ as a transformative step for women’s welfare, he said, “Serving our sisters and daughters is akin to worshipping goddesses.” Chouhan added that under the ‘Lakhpati Didi Abhiyan’, the government’s goal is to ensure every woman in self-help groups earns at least Rs 1 lakh annually.

Touching on housing and basic amenities, Chouhan informed that Madhya Pradesh has received 19 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin. “Those whose names were not earlier included are being surveyed now. No poor family will remain in a kutcha house. Even if there are only five houses in a village, electricity will reach them,” he said.

Chouhan also reiterated his commitment to making Sehore district tuberculosis-free. He said teams of doctors are surveying the area and providing free medicines and nutritional support to patients. “So far, 500 patients, including 90 pregnant women, have been screened. This campaign will succeed only through collective efforts,” he added.
