Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday assured that Madhya Pradesh will not face any shortage of fertilisers and urea during the ongoing sowing season. Speaking to reporters after addressing students at Excellence College in Satna, Chouhan said the Centre is committed to meeting state’s demand and ensuring timely supplies for farmers.

Minister Chouhan said Fertiliser Ministry is continuously working in coordination with the state government to meet the region’s growing demand for inputs.

“Some friends have submitted memorandums about fertiliser-related problems. For us, the interest of farmers is paramount. Central Government is making constant efforts, and Fertiliser Ministry is supplying continuously based on state demand,” Chouhan said.

He highlighted that the demand for urea has risen this year due to good rainfall and an increase in sowing areas, particularly for paddy crops. In Satna district alone, urea consumption by this time last year was 23,585 metric tonnes, while this year the supply has already reached 27,700 metric tonnes. He added that just on Thursday, 1,500 metric tonnes of fertiliser were dispatched to the district.

Chouhan said he has already discussed the matter with the administration and the state government, adding that if needed, further coordination with the Fertiliser Ministry will be ensured to make the supply system more robust and reliable. He assured farmers that the government will not allow any disruption in fertiliser availability during the crucial sowing season.

Union Minister also participated in a Farmers’ Dialogue programme in Maihar, the sacred land of Maa Sharda, where he interacted directly with farmers and listened to their concerns.
