Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on October 8, 2025, interacted with weavers and artisans from across the country at the National Conclave on ‘Weaving India Together’ held at the NASC Complex in New Delhi. The event, organised to celebrate India’s traditional artistry, brought together policymakers, researchers, and rural artisans for an open dialogue on strengthening the country’s weaving ecosystem.
During his interaction, Chouhan praised the rich craftsmanship of artisans from the Northeast, calling their work a symbol of India’s diverse cultural identity. He said the government remains committed to promoting indigenous skills and empowering rural artisans through better training, market access, and institutional support.
The conclave featured active participation from artisans who shared their experiences and challenges, while officials and experts discussed strategies to connect traditional crafts with modern markets. The Minister said such efforts align with the vision of ‘Vocal for Local’ and Atmanirbhar Bharat, which aim to make local talent and products globally competitive.
Senior officials, including ICAR Director General and DARE Secretary Dr Mangi Lal Jat and ICAR DDG Agricultural Extension Dr Rajbir Singh, were also present. The Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, was specially recognised for its contribution in promoting weaving traditions, conducting skill-based training, and creating livelihood opportunities for rural artisans in the Northeast.
The conclave concluded with a renewed push to make India’s handloom and handicraft sectors more sustainable and self-reliant, while ensuring that the country’s traditional weavers and artisans remain at the heart of rural development.
