The Ministry of Ayush has launched a new initiative to promote awareness about the health benefits of medicinal plants, with a special focus on Shatavari. The campaign, titled “Shatavari – For Better Health,” was inaugurated on February 06, 2025, by Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush. The initiative aims to ensure wider adoption of Shatavari in the public health sector, bringing its benefits to a larger audience.

Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) is a highly valued medicinal plant in Ayurveda, known for its numerous health benefits, particularly in supporting women’s health. It is often referred to as the "queen of herbs" due to its ability to balance hormones, enhance fertility, and promote overall reproductive health.

Rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, Shatavari also strengthens the immune system, improves digestion, and helps manage stress. Traditionally used as a rejuvenating tonic, it is widely consumed in the form of powder, tablets, or liquid extracts to boost vitality and well-being.

During the campaign launch, Prataprao Jadhav highlighted the Ministry of Ayush's achievements over the past decade and acknowledged the NMPB's efforts in launching awareness campaigns for various medicinal plants. He mentioned past successful initiatives focused on Amla, Moringa, Giloe, and Ashwagandha, which have significantly contributed to spreading knowledge about traditional medicinal resources in India.

The minister also linked the Shatavari campaign to the Panch Pran Goal set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech on August 15, 2022. The Prime Minister's vision of making India a developed nation by 2047 includes a strong emphasis on holistic well-being. Shatavari, known for its health benefits, particularly for women, has been identified as a crucial plant in achieving this goal.

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha provided insights into the activities of the NMPB and its ongoing efforts to promote medicinal plants through various schemes. He elaborated on the Central Sector Scheme for the Conservation, Development, and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants, which aims to preserve and cultivate important species like Shatavari.
