Chintala Govinda Rajulu, a senior agricultural scientist, has been named as the next president of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). Govinda Rajulu currently serves as Deputy Managing Director of Nabard based in Mumbai. As per reports, the Bureau of the Board of Banks (BBB), headed by the retired IAS official BP Sharma with the secretary of financial services, secretary of public companies, deputy governor of RBI has recommended the name of Govinda Rajulu for the prestigious post of president of Nabard in the middle.
Born in the town of Brahmana Koduru, in the constituency of Ponnur, Govinda Rajulu has emerged victorious in the tough competition for the position of president in interviews held in Mumbai on Wednesday. Moreover, Banks Board Bureau has indicated that he chose Govinda Rajulu for the position of president in view of his experience and service in the organization.
Govinda Rajulu studied at Sri Patibandla Sitaramaiah High School (SPSH) in the city of Guntur and then graduated in agricultural sciences at Bapatla Agriculture College in 1978. He completed the degree in 1982 and made his graduate degree in seed science and technology at the Agricultural Research Institute of India (IARI) in 1986.
He joined Nabard as a grade B officer in 1985 and held several positions across the country before becoming deputy director of medicine in 2019.
As per reports, the appointment of Govinda Rajulu is likely to benefit the state of Andhra Pradesh, as it could boost at least some pending projects and loan applications from the state. In fact, the Center had linked the financing of the Polavaram project with Nabard.
