The valedictory function on the conclusion of National level 21 days Winter School on “New Edge Technologies in Livestock Products Processing, Preservation and Quality Control” was organised in the Department of Livestock Products Technology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. This Winter School was sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.
Dr Manish Kumar Chatli, Course Director and Professor and Head of the Department informed that a total of 24 scientists/faculty members of State Agricultural Universities, State Veterinary Universities and ICAR institutes from 10 different states extending from Assam to Rajasthan and Punjab to Telangana participated in the programme. The course curriculum included all the latest developments related with processing, preservation, value addition, quality assurance and packaging aspects of Meat, Milk, Egg, Fish and wool. During this programme Industry- Academia Interface was also organised in which different fellows from industry interacted with the participants and expressed the need of the applied research in this area. The field visits to dairy plants, meat plants and poultry processing units for the participants were also organised during the programme.
Dr. Nitin Mehta and Dr. Rajesh V. Wagh, Assistant Professors, LPT (Course Coordinators) for this Winter School informed that over 56 lectures and more than 10 practical demonstrations were conducted by various experts from ICAR-New Delhi, PAU, National Research Centre on Meat, Hyderabad, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Srinagar, Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Hisar and UP Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya, Mathura during the 21 days training programme.
Dr. S.S. Singh, Dean Post Graduate Studies, GADVASU and Dr. P.S. Brar, Dean, College of Veterinary Science, GADVASU were the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour, respectively for the valedictory function and distributed the certificates to the participants. A compendium of lectures and a CD of presentations of the experts were released during the valedictory function. Dr Singh congratulated the faculty members for organizing this Winter School and encouraged them to carry on the outstanding work being done in the fields of Livestock Products Technology. Dean COVS urged the participants to be in contact with the GADVASU and they are always welcome for any other programme in the institute. DR A.S. Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU congratulated the participants and asked them to nurture the ideas for inter-university linkages to pace up research and knowledge exchange for the benefit of farmers and entrepreneurs in the discipline of Livestock Products Technology. Dr. O P Malav Assistant Professors, LPT presented the formal vote of thanks on the occasion.
