On Sunday, from May till November, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha announced a series of countrywide protests culminating between August 1 and 15 to press its demands for legally guaranteed minimum support prices, a comprehensive crop insurance scheme, and farmer pensions.
The decision was taken at a national meeting of the Morcha on Sunday, an umbrella organization of farmer unions that had led the yearlong farmer agitation of 2020-21. The Morcha said that from May 26 to May 31, the agitations will be held in all the states and Union territories.
A Morcha statement said that this will include leading huge protest marches to all members of Parliament and key political leaders in their home constituencies and submitting memoranda to them, warning them to quickly resolve all the demands of the farmers and if they fail, they will further face upcoming protests.
In May, June, and July, across the country, the state and district-level conventions of the Morcha will be held to galvanize and organize farmers and field workers.
In addition to this, the Morcha said that between August 1 and 15, in coordination with workers’ unions and organizations mass protests will be held to end the Centre’s sale of farmer and worker interests to corporate houses.
Also, they said that between September and mid-November, massive all-India yatras shall be held across the country which shall be led by national leaders of SKM. The yatras will especially target the states that will see Assembly elections such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, etc.
On October 3, it announced that India Shaheedi Diwas would witness the anniversary of the killing of 8 people including 4 farmers in Lakhimpur Khiri, Uttar Pradesh, in 2021 as a fallout of the farmers' protest.
Vijay Diwas is observed by holding day-night dharna for at least three days in all state capitals on November 26, the day the historic Dilli Chalo march of farmers reached the gates of Delhi.
It showed support for the female wrestlers who are protesting Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India and a member of the BJP, over allegations of sexual harassment. Additionally, it also lent its support to the former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik, whom they said was a supporter of farmers.
