Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath alleged Rs 2000 cr farmer loan scam on the previous BJP government that ruled the state for the past 15 years.

Kamal Nath today said this after meeting farmers who claimed that they never took loans but their names figured as beneficiaries.

“This is a big scam. It is expected to be more than Rs. 2000 cr. We will take strict action,” the CM said.

Shobha Oza, leader of Congress said, “An Rs. 2000 cr loan scam happened during the 15-year rule of BJP and the Kamal Nath government will take the issue to its logical conclusion. No one will be spared.”

Last week, a farmer in the Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district died due to cardiac arrest after it was brought to notice that he had a huge loan on him. The farmer never took the loan claimed his family.  The deceased is Mukundi Adivasi of Sardai Nayanagar. A local cooperative body in the district posted a list of debtors where the name of the deceased was mentioned against a loan of Rs. 5 lakh.

The local bank had pasted the list as part of the loan waiver process initiated by the Congress government. The government after gaining power in the state had announced to waive farmer loans up to Rs.2 lakh per head.

Several farmers in MP have alleged that their names feature in the list even though they’ve never taken a loan.
