Union Minister Ramdas Athawale responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pre-poll promise in 2014 on black money stashed overseas said that people in India will get Rs 15 lakh each in their bank accounts ‘slowly’. He also alleged that Reserve Bank of India was not giving the money despite being asked.
Athawale while speaking to media said "15 lakh rupees will come gradually and not at once as the government does not have so much money. The RBI was asked for money but it is not giving so the amount cannot be collected. An assurance though was given but there are some technical issues”.
It must be recalled that PM Modi while campaigning for the general election in 2014 said that the amount of black money stashed in banks overseas was such huge that if it is brought back, everyone in the country would have Rs. 15 lakh in their bank accounts. PM had also talked about bringing back untaxed money in 100 days of coming to power. And all these comments have frequently been raised by the opposition party when it lists the ruling BJP's failed promises.
Athawale who is famous for shooting his ‘state your opinion’, is the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment. Regarding BJP’s loss in 3 states to the Congress in recent elections, Athawale said, “The Congress has won elections in a few states. But we will defeat them in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and Shri Narendra Modi will again become Prime Minister."
