The Government of India has unveiled the ‘Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar,’ a distinguished national award recognizing exceptional contributions in the fields of Science, Technology, and Innovation. This initiative aims to celebrate the remarkable achievements of researchers, technologists, and innovators, inspiring advancements that contribute significantly to the nation's scientific landscape. Nominations and applications are now being accepted for the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar (RVP), which includes individual and team categories across various domains of science, technology, and technology-led innovation. This initiative invites outstanding contributors who have left an indelible mark on their respective fields.
Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2024: Categories and Recognitions
The awards will be distributed across four categories, highlighting different aspects of excellence:

Vigyan Ratna (VR)

Recognizes lifetime achievements and contributions made in the field of Science and Technology.

A maximum of three awards will be presented in this category.

Vigyan Shri (VS)

Acknowledges distinguished contributions in the given field of Science and Technology.

A maximum of 25 awards will be bestowed in this category.

Vigyan Yuva Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (VY-SSB) Award

Recognizes and encourages young scientists who have made an exceptional contribution in the field of Science and Technology.

A maximum of 25 awards will be granted.

Vigyan Team (VT) Award

Commends teams comprising three or more scientists, researchers, or innovators who have made an exceptional contribution while working collaboratively in the field of Science and Technology.

A maximum of three awards will be given in this category.
13 Domains of Excellence
The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar will be distributed across 13 domains, covering a wide spectrum of scientific and technological disciplines. These domains include Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Mathematics & Computer Science, Earth Science, Medicine, Engineering Sciences, Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, Technology & Innovation, Atomic Energy, Space Science and Technology, and Others.
How to Apply
Nominations for this prestigious set of awards can be submitted on the Award Portal of the Ministry of Home Affairs (https://awards.gov.in/) from January 14, 2024, to February 28, 2024. Detailed guidelines and information about RVP are available on the awards portal. This year, the coordination of the awards falls under the purview of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) under the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The awards are scheduled to be announced on May 11, 2024, coinciding with National Technology Day. The Award Ceremony for all categories will take place on August 23, 2024, marking National Space Day.
