On June 11, 2024, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, officially assumed charge of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, as well as the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
In a media address following his appointment, Singh highlighted his commitment to maintaining the continuity of the Narendra Modi government's vision and policies. He expressed a determined focus on overcoming any obstacles that might hinder the implementation of these policies.
Singh's political journey is marked by significant milestones. He was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2000, and his electoral success continued with a victory in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections from the Begusarai parliamentary seat. Singh further secured wins from the Munger constituency in the 2009, 2019, and 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Despite previous speculations about his ministerial appointment, it is only now that he has taken up these crucial roles.
Joining Singh in the administration of these ministries are Ministers of State Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel and George Kurian. Prof. Baghel will assist in the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, while Kurian will focus on the latter. The newly appointed ministers were warmly received by department Secretaries and other senior officials, who expressed their support and readiness to work under their leadership.
Singh's dual ministerial roles are expected to bring new focus and efficiency to these ministries, ensuring that the government's initiatives are implemented effectively.
