According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over South India during the next five days. In the middle and upper tropospheric layers, a cyclonic circulation is present across south interior Karnataka and its surroundings.

IMD forecasted widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across Kerala-Mahe over the next five days and over Karnataka on May 20-22 as a consequence of its influence.

On May 21, isolated heavy to very heavy rain will fall throughout coastal and south interior Karnataka, with isolated heavy rainfall on May 22. IMD predicts secluded heavy downpours over Kerala from May 20-22.

Over the next five days, Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana will witness isolated to scattered, light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. From May 21, there will be a major decrease in rainfall activity across South Peninsular India.

As per the weather forecasting agency, for the next two days, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across Kerala, coastal and south Karnataka. Rainfall was forecast to drop significantly after that.

According to the IMD, intense westerly wind winds will flow from the Bay of Bengal to the northeast and neighboring eastern states of India and may bring widespread light to moderate precipitation with isolated heavy to very heavy quantities on May 21-22 in Assam, Meghalaya, and sub-Himalayan West Bengal.

Similar conditions are expected in Sikkim until May 22, according to reports. From May 21-22, isolated exceptionally heavy rains are also predicted over Meghalaya. From May 22 onwards, Northeast India will expect a significant decline in rainfall, according to IMD.

In addition, IMD stated on May 21, that isolated to scattered light rainfall, isolated thunderstorms or lightning, and gusty winds are predicted in Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha during the next five days.
