Punjab Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal announced that the new agriculture policy, aimed at addressing various issues faced by farmers, is scheduled to be released on June 30 this year.
He added that it will help to solve several problems for farmers.
Dhaliwal emphasized that the policy is being developed in collaboration with farmers, farmer leaders, agricultural experts, and representatives from various sectors.
The minister stated that the new agricultural policy is being developed with the intention of boosting the economy of the farmers while presiding over the nearly four-hour-long meeting with a delegation of Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) here discussing their various demands.
The objective is to enhance the farmers' economic well-being and resolve their issues.
The Punjab government is actively exploring opportunities to export locally grown vegetables and crops to neighbouring countries, as stated in an official statement.
Regarding the request for payment from the sugar mills made by the farmer leaders, the minister stated that after speaking with the chief minister, the payment will be disbursed to the sugarcane farmers very soon.
Furthermore, the minister assured farmer leaders that the government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's leadership, is dedicated to improving the farmers' economic conditions and meeting their legitimate demands.
Numerous other problems, demands, and suggestions were discussed at the meeting, and Dhaliwal reportedly gave instructions to the officers on how to resolve the problems.
Notably, the minister promptly directed the agriculture department's top officials to accelerate the process of providing government jobs to eligible family members of farmers who had lost their lives during the farmers' movement against the now-repealed farm laws.
The meeting also involved a detailed conversation on rainwater utilization and conservation.
