Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal stated on February 8 that the main purpose of this meeting is to promote the cultivation of water-saving crops by reducing the area under wheat-paddy and to promote other agricultural allied occupations.
He stated that a direct dialogue will take place between the government and farmers in order to develop a new agricultural policy for the state.
Dhaliwal stated that during this meeting, progressive farmers from across Punjab will present their ideas directly to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and discussions will take place through an open dialogue between the administration, departments, agricultural research institutes, and farmers.
He stated that the meeting would aid in the development of plans for diversifying and profitable agriculture in the state, as well as agricultural reforms. The minister also stated that 5,000 farmers have been invited to the meeting.
Farmers with extensive knowledge of various subjects related to agriculture and allied occupations will be invited to participate. Aside from that, he said, members of various agricultural clubs and associations will attend this meeting.
The participation of women farmers from self-help groups and cooperative societies has also been ensured, according to the minister.
