The Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA) organized the Second SEA's Rapeseed-Mustard Conclave 2018 with the theme: Productivity - The Way Forward For Doubling Farmers’ Income. The Conclave held on 7th-8th July 2018 at Jaipur Marriott Hotel, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.
A lot of work has been done to promote its cultivation, yet its production is range-bound in the six to seven and a half million tonnes in the last decade. Rape- Mustard seed is a high oil content crop and there is an urgent need to increase its production in the country.
This intervention is in the line with PM’s call for doubling farmers’ income by 2022. With the ever-increasing demand for food crops, there is an increase in a fight for acreage; therefore the only way forward to have increased production is to have an increase in productivity.
India needs at least 10 million tonnes of Rape-Mustard seed to meet its growing oil demand and also its meal demand for cattle feed.
