Droupadi Murmu, the BJP-led NDA's choice for the next President, will make a "great president," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday. Modi stated that the former governor of Jharkhand has dedicated her life to serving society.
In a late-night announcement, the BJP parliamentary board named Murmu, an Odisha tribal leader, as the ruling NDA's presidential candidate.
"Droupadi Murmu Ji has dedicated her life to serving society and empowering the poor, oppressed, and marginalized," Modi wrote in a series of tweets.
He described her as having extensive administrative experience as well as an outstanding gubernatorial tenure. "I am confident she will be an excellent President for our country," Modi said.
Millions of people, particularly those who have experienced poverty and hardship, derive great strength from Murmu's life, according to the Prime Minister. "Her policy understanding and compassionate nature will greatly benefit our country," Modi said.
Other BJP leaders praised Murmu as well. While announcing his candidacy, BJP chief JP Nadda stated that for the first time, preference has been given to a woman tribal candidate.
"This decision will elevate tribal pride to new heights," said Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
"I welcome Droupadi Murmu's nomination as Presidential candidate," said Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar. She is a capable and deserving candidate who has worked in various roles and responsibilities for the poor, tribals, and women. Even in this position, she will carry out her duties."
If Murmu (64) is elected, she will be the first tribal woman and person from Odisha to hold the top constitutional position, which has a good chance of happening given that the odds favour the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.
Congratulations to Smt. Draupadi Murmu ji on being named the NDA's presidential candidate wrote defense minister Rajnath Singh. She is renowned for her managerial skills, modesty, and zeal for working for the benefit of the underprivileged and other marginalized groups in our society.
