Kullu valley lies in the Western Himalayan region of India and the main occupation of the people here is agriculture and tourism. With the change in livelihood conditions, the people shifted their focus to new agricultural techniques and crops. Garlic cultivation was one of the most innovative step, to cope up with the changing conditions.
Mr. Prasoon Sharma completed his studies in 1995 and started business of garlic cultivation in Kullu valley. Realising the benefits in the business and potential of growth in future, he devoted himself wholeheartedly into this business.
He mastered the art of agriculture extension through practice and popularised garlic cultivation in the valley through famous slogan “Lahsun lgao, Paisa kamao”.

They not just promoted farmers to cultivate garlic, but also provided them guidance on how to harvest and market it. At present, the farmer Mr. Prasoon Sharma has also diversifies his business into tourism, agri-input and agri-machinery sector.
The future endeavours are to diversify business, so as to double farmer’s income in Himachal Pradesh.
