Who can open Jan-Dhan account?

PM Jan-Dhan Yojana aims to deliver financial services at an affordable cost to the low-income segments of the public & thus, reduce poverty in India. Under PMJDY scheme, an individual can open an account with any one of the banks in the country or with a Business Correspondent (Bank Mitr) outlet.

People can also open a zero balance account under PM Jan Dhan scheme. But, they must maintain a particular minimum balance if they want to get a cheque book. The account holders are given RuPay debit cards in PMJDY scheme which they can use across any ATM in the country for withdrawing cash.

How to check Jan Dhan Yojana account balance?

The National Payments Corporation of India or NPCI has innovated the *99# service for the banking customers in India. This latest service can be used for mobile banking by anyone who has a bank account with any bank.

However, the basic minimum requirement is that the individual must have a mobile phone, smartphone or even a basic phone. The handset must be GSM enabled. Users of CDMA handsets cannot use this facility.

What is Jan Dhan Yojana *99# service?

*99# is a mobile banking service which is based on USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data). By *99# service, the NPCI has brought together the telecom service providers & banks to provide a range of services to the banking customers in India. To get access to financial & non-financial services, the individuals must have mobile banking activated on his or her account & use the registered mobile number to dial the code *99# then, they must follow the simple steps to access the range of services allowed on their account.

How to check PM Jan-Dhan account balance by using *99# service?

  • By using this facility to check your Jan Dhan Yojana account balance, you should have your mobile number linked with your account. Adding to it your mobile banking must be active.

  • Your phone must be a GSM handset. The registered phone number must be on and active on your phone.

  • When all these conditions are met, you can get started with the *99# service. Then, follow the below steps:

 

Step 1: Dial *99# from your mobile phone.

Step 2: You will receive a welcome message on your mobile.

Step 3: Here, you will be asked to enter any one of the following details: The first 3 letters of your bank’s short name. The first 4 letters of your bank’s IFSC code. (First check & know the right short name or IFSC code of your bank before using this service).

Step 4: After you enter any one of these details.

Step 5: Click on Ok icon. You will find a list of services offered under this facility.

Step 6: The first option that starts with the serial number 1 is balance enquiry.

Step 7: So, if you want to check the balance in your Jan Dhan Yojana account, press ‘1’ & then tap on submit.

Step 8: Following a confirmation screen, you can see the balance of your account available on the phone screen.

Check PMJDY Balance through Missed Call: 

You can also check your account balance through missed calls. If you have a Jan Dhan account with the State Bank of India then you can check balance through missed call. For this, you can make a missed call on the number 18004253800 or 1800112211.
