Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana: 41.93 crore accounts have been opened under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana or PMJDY as on 24 February 2021, informed Union Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Anurag Singh Thakur on 15 March 2021.
This information is for PMJDY beneficiaries from the rural and farming community.
The Minister further told that Centre had announced Rs. 1.70 lakh crore ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana’ relief package on 26 March 2020 to fight the economic impact of Coronavirus on the poor and deprived. The main features of the package are;

Complete personal accident insurance cover of Rs. 50 lakh for health workers fighting Coronavirus.

Additional allocation of food grain at 5 kg / person and pulses at 1 kg / family every month free of cost to all the beneficiaries under the public distribution system.

Free LPG cylinders to eight crore beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.

Front loading & payment in April, 2020 itself of 1st instalment of Rs 2,000 due in 2020-21 to over 8 crore farmers under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

An ex-gratia of Rs 500 / month for 3 months to 20.40 crore women PMJDY account-holders & release of Rs.1000/- to 3 crore old widows and persons in Divyang category.

Increasing MNREGA wages by Rs. 20 w.e.f 1 April 2020 and also limit of collateral free lending from Rs. 10 – Rs. 20 lakh for women organized via 63 lakh Self Help Groups.

Providing 24 percent of the monthly wages into PF accounts of wage-earners who earn below Rs. 15,000 / month, in businesses with less than 100 workers, for 3 months to prevent disruption in employment.

Amendment in Employees’ Provident Fund Regulations to incorporate Pandemic as the reason to allow non-refundable advance of 75 percent of the amount or 3 months wages, whichever is lower, from their accounts.

Directions issued to State Governments to utilize: a) Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Fund to help & support to around 3.5 Crore registered workers b) District Mineral Fund for supplementing as well as expanding facilities of medical testing, screening & other requirements to prevent the spread of Coronavirus and treat the patients affected with this pandemic.
