PMFBY: Centre will hold a mega disbursement event under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) today, August 11, in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, where over Rs 3,200 crore in crop insurance claims will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of more than 30 lakh farmers across the country.

Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who will chair the event, said this will be the first time such a large-scale claim payout is being executed in a single day through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Farmers in Rajasthan will receive over Rs 1,100 crore, while the highest share of Rs 1,156 crore will go to Madhya Pradesh. Chhattisgarh farmers will get Rs 150 crore, and those in other states will receive Rs 773 crore.

Chouhan said the government has simplified the claim settlement system to ensure faster payments. Under the new rules, claims can be paid proportionately based only on the central subsidy, without waiting for a state’s contribution. From the Kharif 2025 season, any delay by state governments in paying their share will attract a 12% penalty, while insurance companies delaying settlements will also have to pay 12% interest to farmers.

Since its launch in 2016, PMFBY has processed more than 78 crore farmer applications and disbursed Rs 1.83 lakh crore in claims against Rs 35,864 crore in premiums paid by farmers, an average payout of over five times the premium amount.

Union Minister also highlighted the adoption of advanced technology to enhance transparency and speed in claim settlements. Platforms such as YES-TECH and WINDS portals, AIDE mobile app, Krishi Rakshak Portal, and helpline number 14447 have improved weather data accuracy, enabled village-level registration, and ensured faster claim processing.

The event in Jhunjhunu will see Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma as the chief guest, along with Union Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Choudhary, Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena, farmer leaders, and senior officials. Farmers from Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Jaipur, Kotputli-Behror, and nearby districts will participate in person, while lakhs of farmers from across the country are expected to join virtually.

According to the government, PMFBY not only provides financial security to farmers during crop loss but also encourages greater agricultural investment, helping realise the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
