Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal on Thursday launched Angikaar 2025, a nationwide outreach campaign under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0), in New Delhi. The initiative aims to accelerate house construction under the scheme and ensure last-mile delivery of its benefits.

The two-month campaign, which will run till October 31 across more than 5,000 urban local bodies, will feature door-to-door awareness drives, loan melas, cultural programmes, and camps. It is expected to fast-track application verification, expedite completion of pending houses, and inform beneficiaries about schemes such as the Credit Risk Guarantee Fund Trust for Low Income Housing (CRGFTLIH) and PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

So far, PMAY-U has sanctioned 120 lakh houses, of which 94.11 lakh pucca houses have been completed and delivered. Under PMAY-U 2.0, launched last year, an additional one crore urban families are to receive financial assistance of up to Rs 2.5 lakh for building or purchasing homes.

As part of the campaign, PMAY-U Awas Diwas will be observed on September 17 to mark the first anniversary of PMAY-U 2.0. A flagship event, PM Awas Mela- Shehri, will also be organised at district and municipal levels in two phases, from September 17 to 27 and from October 16 to 31. The mela will showcase housing benefits, connect schemes, and encourage community participation.

According to the ministry, Angikaar 2025 reaffirms the government’s push for “Housing for All” by bridging delivery gaps and bringing welfare schemes closer to citizens.

The launch event was attended by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu, Housing Secretary Srinivas Katikithala, and Mission Director for Housing for All Kuldip Narayan, along with other senior officials.
