The Rajasthan government recently announced that it would provide 12 LPG cylinders a year for Rs 500 each in Rajasthan from April 1 to poor families under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
From April 1, the Rajasthan government will offer 12 LPG cylinders annually to low-income households enrolled in the Ujjwala scheme in the state for Rs 500 each.
At a gathering in Mala Kheda village in the Alwar district on the day of the party's ambitious "Bharat Jodo Yatra," Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot made the declaration alongside senior leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge.
The statement coincides with the beginning of the Congress party's preparations for the 2023 Assembly election.
States providing LPG Subsidies
The state of Rajasthan is not the only one that offers families living below the poverty line (BPL) a subsidy on cooking gas cylinders.
Gujarat, which was set to have elections at the time, said in October that the Ujjwala scheme will grant recipients with gas connections two free LPG cylinders. According to Jitu Vaghani, a former minister of education, the state's Ujjwala scheme provides LPG connections for almost 38 lakh families. According to him, the decision will cost the government Rs 650 crore annually.
The Goa government began offering three free cooking gas cylinders to BPL families in June of this year. The state said that the action will help families with a combined yearly income of less than Rs 4 lakh.
Through this plan, the state government will provide coverage for 37,000 BPL households. In its election campaign, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is now in power in Goa, pledged to give BPL households free LPG cylinders.
1.84 lakh Antyodaya cards in Uttarakhand will now receive three free LPG cylinders each year according to a proposal that was accepted by the state's cabinet in May. The decision will cost the government 55 crore rupees a year.
For the 9 crore low-income women who received free connections via the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the national government promised in May of this year a subsidy of Rs 200 per gas cylinder up to 12 cylinders. A revenue impact of around Rs 6,100 crore per year will result from this.
