Vaghani said that two free LPG cylinders will be provided to the citizens and housewives with a relief of Rs. 1,000 crores. This LPG subsidy will reach the beneficiary's account within three days of cylinder purchase.
"Under the Ujjwala scheme, LPG connections have been provided to almost 38 lakh families. Each of these families will receive two gas cylinders annually from the state government. The government will have to pay 650 crores for this each year,” he said.
The Education minister further stated that the state government had decided to provide two free cylinders every year. According to Jitu Vaghani, the decision was made keeping in mind the 38 lakh housewives in Gujarat.
He added that the public can receive up to Rs 1,700 with the relief of the 650 crores decided for this scheme.
The Gujarat government's decision to lower the value-added tax (VAT) on compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) by 10% was also announced by Jitu Vaghani on Monday.
"Our government has 10% reduced the VAT on PNG and CNG. Housewives, auto-rickshaw drivers, and everyone else who uses CNG-run vehicles will benefit from this,” according to state minister Jitu Vaghani.
He claimed that a 10% reduction in CNG would result in savings of Rs 6-7 per kilogram. Similar to that, PNG will receive a subsidy of Rs 5–Rs 5.50 per kg, according to the minister.
This state government announcement comes just a few days before Diwali and Elections. Vaghani said those who are eligible for the Pradhan Mantri Ujwala Yojana will get a huge benefit from the announcement.
The total sum will be directly deposited to their accounts, Jitu Vaghani added.
