
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency, on August 2 to launch and lay the foundation stone of development projects worth around Rs 2,200 crore. The visit will also mark the release of the 20th instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme, under which more than Rs 20,500 crore will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of over 9.7 crore farmers across India. With this, the total disbursement under the scheme will cross Rs 3.90 lakh crore since its inception.
During the visit, PM Modi will address a public gathering and unveil a wide range of projects aimed at transforming Varanasi’s infrastructure, cultural heritage, urban landscape, and quality of life. A major focus will be on enhancing road connectivity in the city and surrounding areas. Key road projects being inaugurated include the widening and strengthening of the Varanasi–Bhadohi road, the Chhitauni–Shool Tankeshwar road, and a new railway overbridge at Hardattpur. Foundation stones will also be laid for multiple rural and urban road corridors and two additional railway overbridges.
To upgrade the power infrastructure, projects worth over Rs 880 crore will be launched under the Smart Distribution Project, including the undergrounding of power lines in urban areas. In a push to boost tourism and preserve the city’s rich heritage, PM Modi will inaugurate redevelopment work at eight riverfront Kuccha Ghats, Kalika Dham, Rangildas Kutiya, and Durgakund, along with laying the foundation stone for the restoration of the Kardameshwar Mahadev Temple and the redevelopment of Munshi Premchand’s ancestral house in Lamahi.
Other key initiatives include the development of 21 parks, an urban Miyawaki forest, and water purification work at several kunds including Ramkund and Shankuldhara. To address rural water needs, Prime Minister will inaugurate 47 Rural Drinking Water Schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
The visit will also witness the inauguration of 53 upgraded school buildings, the launch of a new district library, and educational infrastructure upgrades at government schools. On the healthcare front, PM Modi will inaugurate robotic surgery and CT scan facilities at leading cancer hospitals and lay the foundation stone for a Homoeopathic College and Hospital.
A new synthetic hockey turf at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Sports Stadium will be inaugurated, alongside the launch of new facilities for law enforcement personnel, including a 300-capacity multipurpose hall and QRT barracks. PM Modi will also launch a registration portal for Kashi Sansad Pratiyogita and distribute assistive devices to over 7,400 Divyangjan and elderly citizens.
