Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate ICA Global Cooperative Conference 2024 and officially launch the UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025 on November 25 at 3 PM at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. This event marks the first time in the 130-year history of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) that India is hosting its Global Cooperative Conference and General Assembly.
The event, themed "Cooperatives Build Prosperity for All," is a collaborative effort of Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), ICA, and the Government of India, with support from prominent Indian cooperatives such as AMUL and KRIBHCO. The conference will run from November 25 to 30 and will delve into critical global challenges and opportunities for cooperatives in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Discussions will highlight the role of cooperatives in combating poverty, promoting gender equality, and fostering sustainable economic growth.
The UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025, launched by PM Modi during the event, will focus on the theme "Cooperatives Build a Better World." This global initiative highlights the transformative role cooperatives play in promoting social inclusion, economic empowerment, and environmental sustainability. Recognized as key drivers of the SDGs, cooperatives aim to address pressing issues such as inequality, poverty, and decent work conditions.
Adding a symbolic touch to the occasion, the Prime Minister will launch a commemorative postal stamp. The stamp features a lotus with five petals representing the Panchatatva (five elements of nature), symbolizing peace, growth, and resilience. It underscores cooperatives' commitment to sustainability and showcases their role in agriculture, dairy, fisheries, and other vital sectors.
The event will witness the presence of high-profile international leaders, including Bhutan's Hon’ble Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Fiji’s Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica, and 3,000 delegates from over 100 countries.
This significant gathering is set to enhance India’s leadership in the global cooperative movement while advancing its vision of "Sahkar Se Samriddhi" (Prosperity through Cooperation).
