Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (September 26, 2025) launched Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana through video conferencing, directly transferring Rs. 10,000 each to 75 lakh women across the state, amounting to a total of Rs. 7,500 crore. The initiative, being seen as a landmark step for women’s empowerment, seeks to make women in Bihar financially independent by providing opportunities for employment and self-reliance.

Addressing the launch, Modi noted that the scheme will benefit one woman from every family in Bihar. Each beneficiary will receive an initial grant of Rs. 10,000, with potential financial support of up to Rs. 2 lakh in later phases. The funds can be used to pursue a variety of income-generating activities, including agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, tailoring, and small-scale enterprises.

PM Modi highlighted the role of the Jan Dhan Yojana, which ensured bank accounts for over 30 crore women, making the large-scale transfer of funds possible. “Without this infrastructure, the money would have been lost in transit, and beneficiaries would have suffered,” he said. Prime Minister also praised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his partnership in the initiative, emphasizing that the scheme reflects the government’s commitment to the service, prosperity, and dignity of women in the state.

Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana is designed to be community-driven, with Self Help Groups (SHGs) providing training and guidance, while rural markets, or Gramin Haat-Bazaars, will be developed to support the sale of women’s products. Modi said Bihar already has 11 lakh active SHGs, ensuring that the system is well-prepared to support beneficiaries from the outset.

Linking the initiative to other government programmes, Modi highlighted efforts such as the Mudra Yojana, Drone Didi, Bank Didi, and Bima Sakhi campaigns, which expand avenues for women’s employment and entrepreneurship. He also cited Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana as examples of schemes that have already improved the lives of women in Bihar through better health, housing, and nutrition.

The Prime Minister recalled the challenges faced by women in Bihar during earlier regimes, including lack of infrastructure, poor connectivity, and law and order issues. He said the current government has worked to improve roads, bridges, and public safety, enabling women to step out freely and pursue economic opportunities.

Modi concluded by noting that empowering women brings progress to society as a whole. The launch event was attended by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, and other dignitaries, with over 1 crore women participating at district, block, cluster, and village levels across Bihar.
