
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Motihari in Bihar on Friday, inaugurated, laid the foundation stone, and dedicated to the nation development projects worth over Rs 7,000 crore. These initiatives span key sectors including railways, roads, information technology, fisheries, and rural development.
Addressing a public gathering, the Prime Minister hailed Champaran as a land of historic inspiration, recalling Mahatma Gandhi’s movement that began on its soil. He said the region will now act as a springboard for modern development. Emphasizing the importance of Bihar’s progress for the nation’s growth, PM Modi praised the "double-engine government"where both the state and Centre work in political alignment for enabling faster execution of development projects.
Highlighting the government's focus on agriculture, the Prime Minister said over Rs 1,500 crore has been disbursed to more than 5 lakh farmers in Motihari alone under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. He also spoke about the newly launched Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana, aimed at supporting 100 agriculturally rich but low-income districts, benefiting nearly 1.75 crore farmers, many of them from Bihar.
He noted the transformation of the rural landscape through the PM Awas Yojana, under which over 60 lakh pucca houses have been constructed in Bihar so far. In Motihari district alone, nearly 3 lakh families have received homes.
Focusing on women empowerment, PM Modi highlighted the financial inclusion brought about through Jan Dhan Yojana, mentioning that over 3.5 crore women in Bihar now have bank accounts. He announced the release of Rs 400 crore to around 61,500 Self-Help Groups and celebrated the rise of over 20 lakh “Lakhpati Didis” in the state.
To support youth employment, he unveiled a new scheme starting August 1, under which Rs 15,000 will be given to first-time job seekers in the private sector. He also appreciated the Nitish Kumar-led state government for its transparent recruitment process. Stressing infrastructure-led growth, PM Modi flagged off four Amrit Bharat Express trains, inaugurated major road projects, and dedicated key railway upgrades, including line doublings and station modernizations.
Concluding his address, PM Modi recalled Bihar’s past struggles with underdevelopment under previous regimes and asserted that the state is now on a path of rapid transformation. He urged the public to continue supporting the shared vision of building a new, empowered Bihar rooted in growth, equality, and pride.
