Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to express his content on citizens getting complete advantage from digital health facilities on August 5. PM retweeted Union Health Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya’s post, where he informed that more than 5 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA) have been created through the NCD portal under the National Program for Non-Communicable Diseases.
National Program for Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD)
NP-NCD was launched in 2010, with the aim to strengthen infrastructure, health promotion, human resource development, early diagnosis, management and referral.
It is implemented under the National Health Mission (NHM) across the country. Earlier, the program was introduced with the name of National Programme for Prevention ad Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) which was later renamed to the current title, NP-NCD. It was renamed to include all types on non-communicable disease.
Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA)
Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA) was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 27, 2021. ABHA is a unique health account that will help people access and share health record with clinics and hospitals whenever required. The objective is to provide a digital health ID that comprises a 14-digit health identification number using a person’s mobile number or records Aadhaar.
With the Ayushman Bharat Health Account, India is turning itself into a more efficient and patient-centric healthcare ecosystem that promises to enhance the well-being of its citizens.
