PM Modi Applauds Haridwar Farmer For Doubling Income From Matasya Sampada Yojna

A Haridwar-based farmer, Gurdev Singh informed PM Narendra Modi about doubling his income through Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojna during an interaction at Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, December 27, interacted with beneficiaries of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra via video conferencing. The yatra is being undertaken across the country to attain saturation of flagship schemes of the government by ensuring that the benefits of these schemes reach all targeted beneficiaries in a time-bound manner.

The Prime Minister also addressed the gathering on the occasion.

Thousands of beneficiaries of Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra from across the country joined the event. The programme was also joined by Union Ministers, Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), and local-level representatives.

During the conversation, the PM greeted the Haridwar-based beneficiary Gurdev Singh with ‘Har Har Gange’, a popular greeting amongst people living around the banks of the Ganges river, especially in Haridwar and Rishikesh. The greetings were followed by the resounding ‘Har Har Gange' by the gathering. Singh is a farmer and is also involved in the fisheries sector.

In conversation with the PM, Singh informed him how he availed the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojna (PMMSY) which led to a doubling of his income. He further explained that he used to earn 60,000 rupees from his one-acre land, now with fishery, he can extract 1.5 lakh rupees from the same land. The Prime Minister praised him for innovation while studying government schemes.

The PMMSY aims to bring about the Blue Revolution in India through sustainable and responsible development of the fisheries sector. It also addresses gaps in fish production and productivity, quality, technology, post-harvest infrastructure and management, modernization and strengthening of the value chain, traceability, establishing a robust fisheries management framework, and fishers' welfare.


The Prime Ministers reiterated the utility of augmentation of farm income by animal husbandry, fisheries, and production of honey. He also emphasized the importance of the Sweet Revolution and the Blue Revolution along with the Green and White Revolution.
