Ministry of Women and Child Development has extended special registration drive for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) until August 15, 2025, to ensure wider outreach among pregnant and lactating women across the country. The ongoing door-to-door enrolment campaign is being led by Anganwadi and ASHA workers, who are tasked with identifying and registering all eligible beneficiaries under the scheme.
PMMVY is a centrally sponsored scheme under the ‘Samarthya’ sub-scheme of Mission Shakti. It provides direct financial assistance through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode to support the nutritional needs and health of Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM), while also promoting a positive attitude towards the girl child.
The scheme offers Rs 5,000 in two installments for the first child and Rs 6,000 in a single installment for the birth of a second girl child, as per the updated Mission Shakti guidelines.
Since its inception, and as of July 31, 2025, more than 4.05 crore women have received at least one installment of maternity benefits under PMMVY, with a total disbursement exceeding Rs 19,028 crore via DBT directly into Aadhaar-seeded bank or post office accounts.
The implementation of the scheme is being carried out using the newly launched PMMVYSoft platform, which went live in March 2023. The software ensures seamless Aadhaar authentication through UIDAI and verification by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to facilitate accurate and timely fund transfers.
Several reforms have also been integrated into the portal, including an Aadhaar-based biometric authentication system using Facial Recognition Technology, a multilingual toll-free helpline (14408), an Integrated Grievance Module, and an automated Due-list feature to identify potential beneficiaries. These digital enhancements aim to increase transparency, improve service delivery, and maximize the scheme’s coverage.
With the extended registration deadline, the government hopes to bring more eligible mothers into the fold and further strengthen maternal and child health outcomes nationwide.
