Farmers also get 90% subsidy for installation of solar pumps under this scheme

As per latest media reports, the government of Maharashtra is planning to provide solar pumps to as many as 5 lakh farmers in the state. The solar pumps would be distributed under the Central Government’s Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan Yojana, popularly known as Kusum Yojana Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced last week.

Speaking in the Legislative Council, Fadnavis said that the Maharashtra government intends to generate extra revenue by leasing out land to install such agriculture pumps.

The minister added that farmers living in Vidarbha region will be given new solar pumps and electricity connections on a priority basis. He also said that the pending applications would be cleared by March 2023.

It is important to mention that with the aim to provide uninterrupted and reasonable electricity to people, the Central Government has announced the execution of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme or RDSS, for which an amount of Rs 39,000 crore has been sanctioned for Maharashtra, Fadnavis said.

He added that the move will give a good boost to the creation of infrastructure in the farm sector in Maharashtra.

PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) Scheme is aimed at ensuring energy security for farmers in India, along with honouring India’s commitment to increase the share of installed capacity of electric power from non-fossil-fuel sources to 40% by 2030 as part of Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs).
