PM-KISAN 20th Installment: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today on August 2, 2025, released the 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme during a large public gathering in Banoli, Sevapuri, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. With this release, Rs 20,500 crore was transferred directly into the bank accounts of more than 9.7 crore eligible farmers. With the Kharif season in progress, this installment is expected to provide timely support across the country, helping farmers manage essential agricultural expenses such as seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs.
While addressing the gathering, PM Modi emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to empowering farmers and making agriculture more sustainable and profitable.
This installment comes at a crucial time, as farmers across India are engaged in Kharif sowing, and the financial support will help them buy seeds, fertilizers, and other essential inputs. The timely transfer is expected to not only reduce their financial burden but also improve farm productivity and support small and marginal farmers who depend heavily on seasonal inputs.
What is PM-KISAN?
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a central government scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2019 to provide financial support to landholding farmers across India.
Under this scheme, eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 per year, paid in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 each. The money is directly credited to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency and eliminating middlemen.
The main objective of PM-KISAN is to:
-
Support farmers in managing agricultural expenses
-
Help purchase seeds, fertilizers, and other farm inputs
-
Strengthen the financial condition of small and marginal farmers
To benefit from the scheme, farmers must:
-
Own cultivable land
-
Link their Aadhaar with their bank account
-
Ensure that their land records are updated
As of 2025, the scheme has benefitted over 11 crore farmers and remains one of the largest direct income support programs in the world for the agriculture sector.
The previous (19th) installment of the scheme was released on February 24, 2025. Based on the regular payment cycle, the 20th installment was expected by June 2025. However, due to Prime Minister Modi’s foreign visit from July 2 to 9, the release was delayed.
With the release of the 20th installment , the total disbursement under the PM-KISAN scheme has crossed Rs 4 lakh crore, benefiting over 11 crore farmer families across the country. In Bihar alone, more than Rs 27,088 crore has been distributed through previous installment s, with the 20th installment expected to benefit approximately 76.37 lakh farmers.
