About IPIRTI:
The Indian Plywood Manufacturers' Research Association (IPMRA) was established in 1962 as a cooperative research laboratory under the auspices of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to conduct applied research on PLYWOOD, a vital wood-based panel material.
Recognizing the need for trained labour in the wood-based panel industry, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)/United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)/Government of India established training facilities in Mechanical Wood Industries Technology (GOI).
In recognition of the Institute's expanded role in natural resource conservation, administrative control was transferred to the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India.
The Institute's name was changed to Indian Plywood Industries Research and Training Institute to reflect its premier position as a centre of excellence in training for Mechanical Wood Industries Technology (IPIRTI)
