The 5th International Agronomy Congress (IAC) will be inaugurated today (23 Nov) by the Indian Society of Agronomy, New Delhi, and Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) under the theme ‘Agri-Innovations to Combat Food and Nutrition Challenges’.
Major Topics of Discussion:
“The conference will cover topics such as climate-resilient agriculture and ecosystem services, integrated farming systems for a sustainable peasant economy, agronomic innovations for tapping genetic potential, and new horizons in biotic and abiotic stress management,” PJTSAU Vice-Chancellor V Praveen Rao said.
“This congress will provide a forum for stakeholders to discuss innovations and solutions to various challenges in agri-food systems,” he explained.
In a press conference on Monday, ISA president and PJTSAU Vice-Chancellor V. Praveen Rao stated that the symposium will focus on 13 issues from a local to international perspective in order to provide specific policy recommendations to the Central and State governments.
Internationally renowned practitioners such as Dr. Rattan Lal, the 2020 World Food Prize recipient, Prof. J.J. Volenec of the American Society of Agronomy, Prof. P.V. Vara Prasad of the Crop Science Society of America, and Dr. Jacqueline d'Arros Hughes of ICRISAT, as well as experts from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and various national and state institutes, will convene for a dialogue on the state of affairs in innovation and challenges in the sector.
Sub-Themes- such as integrated farming, organic agriculture, secondary agriculture and farmer prosperity, and farmer-scientist interface, according to Rao, were considered based on State-specific needs.
Agronomic education, technologies, innovations, big data for smart agriculture, biotic and abiotic stress management, and climate resilience were all current concerns across geographies.
The conference will be attended in person by approximately 500 research scholars, scientists, industry experts, and policymakers, as well as 600 registered virtual participants from around the world.
