Petrol-Diesel Price Cut: The central government has announced a substantial cut in petrol and diesel prices to provide relief to the common people amidst rising inflation. Effective immediately, petrol prices have been reduced by Rs15 per liter, marking a significant decrease from the previous rates. This decision, coming just before the announcement of the Lok Sabha Elections date, is seen as a strategic move to address public concerns over escalating fuel prices.
The reduction in petrol and diesel prices is expected to alleviate the financial burden on consumers across the country. Before this latest adjustment, the government had already implemented a minor reduction of approximately Rs2 per liter in petrol and diesel prices nationwide. With this latest development, consumers can once again expect some respite in their fuel expenses.
Notably, the reduction in prices extends to the Lakshadweep islands, where petrol and diesel prices have been slashed by Rs15.3 per liter in Andrott and Kalpeni, and Rs5.2 per liter in Kavaratti and Minicoy. Following the announcement, petrol prices in most islands of Lakshadweep now stand at Rs100.75 per liter, with diesel priced at Rs95.71 per liter.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has confirmed the price adjustments, emphasizing the government's commitment to addressing the concerns of citizens. According to the ministry, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) is responsible for supplying petrol and diesel to the islands of Kavaratti, Minicoy, Andrott, and Kalpeni in Lakshadweep. Supply operations are facilitated through depots in Kavaratti and Minicoy, with fuel sourced from the IOCL depot in Kochi, Kerala.
Meanwhile, in other states across the country, petrol and diesel prices vary. In Delhi, petrol is priced at Rs94.72 per liter, while diesel stands at Rs87.62 per liter. Similarly, prices in Patna, Jharkhand, Kolkata, and Lucknow reflect the ongoing fluctuations in fuel costs.
The ministry has also clarified that the reduction in petrol and diesel prices in Lakshadweep follows the completion of capital expenditure collections, which had been pending for the past three years. With the collection now finalized, consumers in the region can benefit from the lowered fuel prices.
As informed by @IndianOilcl, price of both petrol & diesel has been reduced by Rs 15.3/litre for Andrott and Kalpeni islands and Rs 5.2/litre for Kavaratti and Minicoy in the Lakshadweep islands, effective today.
