Over 15 lakh flowers will blossom at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar, which will unveil on March 20.
Sheikh Fayaz, commissioner and secretary of the floriculture department, stated that the tulip garden will open earlier than usual this season due to the significantly favorable weather.
To decorate the area, extra plants such as daffodils, hyacinths, narcissus, and other ornamental plants are planted.
To attract tourists, the department will also organize a tulip festival at Tulip Garden in collaboration with the Tourism Department.
A senior official from the department was talking to Rising Kashmir and said that all the preparations have been put in place to provide hassle-free movement for tourists. We are expecting more tourists this year as compared to previous years given the decline in COVID-19 cases.
He stated that visitors will be expected to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 Appropriate Behavior (CAB). Sanitizers will be provided at the entry point in addition to the Covid-19 testing facilities.
If the weather remained pleasant, the flowers would bloom soon, and if the weather persisted cloudily, it would be a bit late in opening the garden, he maintained.
He continued last year despite the COVID-19 second wave. 2.25 lakh tourists, including local visitors, visited the tulip garden to enjoy the natural beauty.
As COVID-19 has declined and normal life has returned to the track, we anticipate a large number of tourists this year.
"Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the previous two years have been distressing for people all around the world." People should visit this tulip garden to enjoy the beauty and relax.
The garden is built on sloping ground in a terraced fashion, consisting of seven terraces. Apart from tulips, many other species of flowers like hyacinths, daffodils and ranunculus have been added as well. More green spaces are included in the garden area, keeping in mind the comforts of the tourists.
According to the department, another tulip garden will be developed in Sonamarg, while a rose garden will be built in Pahalgam.
He claimed that 100 kanals of Sonamarg land had been set aside for a tulip garden.
The department currently oversees parks with more than 10 canals of land, while the municipality oversees smaller parks.
The agency has taken over parks previously managed by J&K Bank, such as Iqbal Park and Badamwari Garden.
