Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Ramnath Thakur, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on February 7, 2025, stated that a total of 6.22 lakh farmers have registered under the Jaivik Kheti portal as part of the government's ongoing efforts to promote organic farming. He further informed that the total organic farming area certified under the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) and Participatory Guarantee System (PGS-India) stands at 59.74 lakh hectares across various states.

To encourage organic farming, the government has implemented two major schemes: the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) and the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for the North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER). While PKVY operates across all states and union territories (excluding the Northeast), MOVCDNER is specifically designed for farmers in the Northeast. These schemes provide comprehensive support from production to processing, certification, and marketing.

Under PKVY, farmers receive assistance of Rs 31,500 per hectare over three years, with Rs 15,000 directly transferred to farmers for organic inputs. Similarly, under MOVCDNER, Rs 46,500 per hectare is provided for three years, including Rs 32,500 for organic inputs and Rs 15,000 as direct benefit transfer. These initiatives aim to help farmers transition smoothly to organic practices while ensuring financial and technical support.

In order to assist farmers in achieving higher price realization, the government created the website www.Jaivikkheti.in as an online marketing platform for direct sales of organic products to customers.

To maintain quality standards in organic farming, two certification systems have been introduced. The NPOP certification, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, focuses on organic product exports, covering production, processing, trading, and export requirements. Meanwhile, the PGS-India certification, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, is a participatory system where farmers assess and verify each other’s organic farming practices, catering to the domestic market demand.

The government has also allocated financial assistance under PKVY for value addition, marketing, and publicity at Rs 4,500 per hectare for three years. Additional support for certification, training, and capacity building is provided at Rs 3,000 per hectare, while Rs 7,500 per hectare is allocated for farmer support. Under MOVCDNER, Rs 10,000 per hectare is available for training and certification over three years.

To further strengthen organic farming, state governments are actively organizing seminars, workshops, exhibitions, and trade fairs to connect farmers with buyers and promote organic products across different regions.
