Weather Today: The Well Marked Low-pressure area over the Southwest Arabian Sea is likely to intensify gradually into a cyclonic storm during the next 48 hours and likely to intensify heavy rainfall over the Southern States, says the weather department. Under the influence of an active easterly wave, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely to lash at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe and Lakshadweep and heavy falls at isolated places over south Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka during next 24 hours. On the other hand, dense fog is very likely to hover in isolated pockets over plains of Uttarakhand, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during morning hours on 03rd December. The weather department has also forecasted strong surface winds during the day time in the National Capital Region.
“The Well Marked Low-pressure area over Southwest Arabian Sea and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean concentrated into a Depression over Southwest Arabian Sea and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean and lay centered at 1730 hours IST of today, 2nd December 2019 near Lat. 5.7°N and Long. 56.6°, about 820 km south-southeast of Socotra (Yemen), 120 km southeast of Bosaso (Somalia). It is very likely to intensify gradually into a cyclonic storm during the next 48 hours. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards towards Somalia coast during the next 72 hours”, says the latest forecast.
There is likely a reduction in rainfall over Peninsular India from 03rd December, say reports.
However, the air quality in the Delhi-NCR region improved to ‘satisfactory’ levels for the first time in two months with AQI of 288 on Tuesday but still falls under ‘Very Unhealthy’.
As per yesterday’s report, most places over Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Telangana, Rayalaseema and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal witnessed light shower while isolated place over Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala & Mahe lashed with heavy rainfall.
Maximum temperatures were reported above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Jharkhand; at a few places over East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Konkan & Goa while minimum temperatures are markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at a few places over Gujarat region, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana; at isolated places over East Rajasthan and Madhya Maharashtra.
