Odisha Rains: IMD Issues Orange Alert in Odisha Districts For Two Days

IMD predicts heavy rainfall in different districts of Odisha on July 25 and 26. IMD issue Orange alert in Odisha districts.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Odisha is expected to experience heavy rainfall on July 25 and 26 due to a cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal. Areas such as Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangapur, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam may receive rainfall of 7 to 11 cm till Tuesday morning. The IMD has issued an Orange warning for the next two days.

On July 25, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada districts may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) at isolated places just after the heavy rainfall in Haridwar. There is a Yellow warning of heavy rainfall for districts such as Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Balangir, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, and Mayurbhanj. Light to moderate rain or thundershower is also expected in other parts of Odisha.

Odisha Rains: IMD Weather Prediction for July 26

On July 26, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Nuapad, Kalahandi, and Balangir may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Boudh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Sonepur, and Bargarh may experience heavy rainfall of 7 to 11 cm in one or two places. Light to moderate rain or thundershower is expected in most places in the state.

As per the media reports, the IMD has warned of squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph along and off the Odisha coast between July 25 and 27 due to low pressure and subsequent depression.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period. There may be water logging, poor visibility, traffic congestion, and possible wall collapse of vulnerable houses. Landslides are also possible in hilly areas of certain districts. The Special Relief Commissioner has instructed district collectors to be on alert in districts with orange and yellow warnings.
