Odisha offers 90% subsidy on solar pumps with ‘Soura Jalanidhi’ scheme

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has introduced a new scheme called ‘Soura Jalanidhi’ to boost the use of solar energy in agricultural development as well as empowerment of farmers in the State.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has introduced a new scheme called ‘Soura Jalanidhi’ to boost the use of solar energy in agricultural development as well as empowerment of farmers in the State.

Patnaik also launched the web portal of the State’ own scheme. Around 1000 farmers from 30 districts attended the event through video conference.

5000 solar pumps will be given to Odisha farmers with up to 90 percent subsidy, under the Soura Jalanidhi scheme. Moreover the scheme will create irrigation prospective in additional 2500 acres in the State.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minster said, “I’m very happy today to launch the ‘Soura Jalanidhi’ scheme for our farmers. The aim of our development is progress of villages and agriculture sector.  For this, several plans and programmes are being implemented.”

He added that the scheme will lessen the cost burden of the farmers and they will get more irrigation facility, produce more and also boost farm incomes.

Patnaik further explained that “In the first phase, farmers of the unserved and under-served areas will get facility of this scheme. Afterward, it will be implemented in the entire State. Up to 90 percent subsidy is being given to the farmers by the Odisha Government. I hope our farmers will reap the benefits of this scheme and script success stories”.

It must be noted that 'Soura Jalanidhi', is a dug well-based solar pump irrigation scheme in convergence mode.
