As Delhiites woke to a slightly warmer morning today, with the mercury expected to climb to a maximum of 27 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a minimum of 13 degrees Celsius, the promise of warmth seemed fleeting amidst the cloudy skies looming overhead. Northwest India gears up for a double whammy as two Western Disturbances are set to make their presence felt in quick succession. The first disturbance is anticipated to sweep in from the night of March 10, followed closely by the second disturbance from the night of March 12. These systems bring with them a forecast of isolated to widespread rainfall and snowfall across various regions.

Impact on Northwest India

Under the influence of these weather systems, a cascade of weather phenomena is expected. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Himachal Pradesh are likely to experience isolated light to moderate rainfall and snowfall on March 10. From March 11 to 14, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning, is anticipated over the region. Uttarakhand can expect isolated to scattered rainfall from March 11 to 14. Similarly, Punjab, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh are likely to witness isolated to scattered rainfall from March 12 to 14.

Other Weather Highlights

Apart from the impending disturbances in the northwest, certain other regions are also in for notable weather patterns. Strong surface winds, ranging from 25 to 35 kmph, are expected over the plains of Northwest India on March 8 and 9. Odisha can anticipate isolated rainfall from March 8th to 10th, while Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may experience similar conditions on March 8 and 9. In the east, a trough in westerlies will lead to scattered light to moderate rainfall and snowfall over Arunachal Pradesh on March 8, with isolated occurrences expected in the subsequent days. Similarly, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to see isolated light rainfall on March 13 and 14, 2024.

Prepare for the Change

As the weather gears up for a shift, residents of northwest India are advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts and prepare accordingly. From carrying umbrellas to planning indoor activities, adapting to changing weather patterns ensures a smooth transition without compromising on daily routines. Whether it's enjoying the pitter-patter of raindrops or basking in the warmth of the sun, embracing the diversity of weather adds a colorful dimension to our lifestyle.
