Amity Institute of Food Technology (AIFT), Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida is organizing an International Conference, 9th AMIFOST 2026, on "Bio-convergence & Next-Gen Food Systems: Towards Sustainable Nutrition and Global Food Resilience”, from 17th-18th March 2026.
Addressing the students during the Inaugural Session, Shri. Vinamra Mishra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME), Government of India, averred, “New Technologies are crucial for sustainable nutrition. The MSME Sector focusses on 5Es including employment, entrepreneurship, exports, efficiency and environment. These areas are crucial for MSMEs to thrive and contribute to India's economic growth. This is the best time for developing new innovations since the government is providing immense monetary support to startups. The MSME Ministry has supported more than 1500 ideas in the last one year, and we always encourage good design interventions which can contribute to the growth of the economy. We have partnered with various organization and institutions in India, and we are also supporting the Circular Economy through our programme SPICE (Supporting and Promoting Investment into Circular Economy). Also, it is crucial to protect Intellectual Property of new technologies and innovations and commercialize them and we are committed to protecting the Intellectual Property Rights of newly developed products and technologies.”
Dr. Constanza Conti, Policy Research Lead - M S Swaminathan Research Foundation, India, & Centre Associate - Stockholm Resilience Centre, Sweden, stated, “We must think about how we can enable the system to make good use of good technology for global food resilience. New technologies are adopted by farmers if they are cost-effective since affordable options and local support build trust in new practices. Nutrition and resilience require more crop diversity and more nutrient -rich crops, therefore it is crucial to deploy tools that support small-scale biodiversity and efficiency. It is also important to ensure that farmers have access to diverse, high-quality planting materials, along with a strong infrastructure to transport crops and minimize waste.”
Encouraging the students, Dr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor Amity University , said, “Research and innovation are crucial to make India a developed country. Amity is committed to nurturing the youth of the country and the youth must take lead and create path-breaking innovations, which are beneficial for the society, thereby transforming the world.”
Prof. (Dr.) W. Selvamurthy, President - Amity Science, Technology & Innovation Foundation , stated, “The conference will help in exploring how innovations such as precision fermentation, microbiome engineering, artificial intelligence, smart packaging, and sustainable biomaterials can help redesign food production, processing, and consumption systems. These innovations will create food systems that are nutritionally optimal, environmentally sustainable, economically viable, and socially equitable.”
Highlighting the significance of the Conference, Prof. (Dr.) V K Modi, Head of Institution, Amity Institute of Food Technology, said, “The conference aims to discuss solutions to address climate change challenges, consumer needs, and transformations in the food processing sector. In addition, it will also explore innovative technologies that are redefining modern food production systems and identify sustainable strategies for building resilient and future-ready food systems.”
During the two-day Conference, various Technical Sessions on “Sustainable & Resource-Efficient Food Systems”, “Nutrition, Dietary Diversity & Healthy Sustainable Diets”, “Current Trends in Food Science & Technology”, “Digital & Bio-Technologies for Sustainable Food Production” and many others, will be conducted.
