India Post and Indian Railways in collaboration have launched the Rail Post Gati Shakti Express Cargo service. This service was among the statements given by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the previous year’s budget. It was launched in unison on February 16th. This initiative came into effect in four different sectors all over the country at the same time. The following are the important points about this new project:

The official press release by the Ministry of Railways describes the Rail Post Gati Shakti to be a product of a partnership between Indian Railways and India post to boost the logistics infrastructure and provide smooth services to the country’s service sector.

The four sectors where it was simultaneously launched are Delhi-Kolkata, Bengaluru-Guwahati, Surat-Muzaffarpur, and Hyderabad-Hazrat Nizamuddin.

The first phase of the project plans to cover 15 sectors all over the nation.

The delivery and pick-up will be overseen and taken care of by India Post. They will pick up the cargo at the customer’s doorstep and deliver the same to the doorstep of the receiver.

There are no limitations on the weight of the load and the consignment will be sealed in boxes to ensure safety.

Trains will have a scheduled departure and arrival, at the source station, intermediate, and destination stations.

Third-party insurance will be provided to the customer by the Department of Post. It will be offered at 0.03% of the Cargo value.

The first-mile and last-mile service charges are cost-effective, given at Rs. 6 under the scheme, keeping in mind the existing road rates.

India Post is the singular contact for the customers to reach out to during the cargo’s journey.

A mobile app will be created from where customers can book their consignment, track it and provide other services.
