A 16-member parliamentary delegation from Nepal, led by former minister and Nepali Congress MP Sanjay Kumar Gautam, visited Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, to explore India’s agricultural advancements and strengthen bilateral cooperation in the sector.
The delegation, representing the Free Youth Democratic Organization (FYDON), held detailed discussions with senior Indian officials, including Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary, Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DA&FW), and Dr. Mangi Lal Jat, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research & Education (DARE).
During the interaction, the delegates were briefed on key components of India’s agricultural ecosystem, with particular focus on soil health management, efficient fertilizer use, precision farming, irrigation practices, crop insurance schemes, agricultural marketing, and strategies for climate-resilient farming. The visit offered the Nepali MPs a comprehensive understanding of how India is modernizing its agricultural sector while ensuring the welfare of farmers.
Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi highlighted several flagship initiatives, including the promotion of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), digital transformation in agriculture, and robust risk mitigation frameworks aimed at safeguarding farmers against market volatility and climate uncertainties. He also emphasized India’s dual focus on achieving nutritional security alongside food security. Reaffirming the deep historical and cultural ties between the two nations, Chaturvedi expressed India’s commitment to further enhancing cooperation with Nepal in the field of agriculture.
Dr. Mangi Lal Jat, Secretary, DARE, assured the delegation of India’s readiness to extend scientific and technological support to Nepal through its wide network of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) institutes and agricultural universities. He stressed the importance of a multi-dimensional approach involving policy collaboration, technology exchange, and stronger linkages between farmers and agri-industries in both countries.
Senior officials from DA&FW, ICAR, and Ministry of External Affairs also participated in the meeting. The visit is being viewed as a significant step toward deepening India–Nepal agricultural relations and fostering new opportunities for knowledge-sharing and regional collaboration.
