The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) topped the global awards list at the International Dairy Federation (IDF) Dairy Innovation Awards that took place during the IDF World Dairy Summit 2022 at Expo Centre, Greater Noida in Delhi NCR on Monday.
This mega dairying institution known for its innovation and transformation of milk production in the country received awards in three categories: Innovation in Research & Development- Collection & Processing, Innovation in Research & Development- Farming, and Innovation in Sustainable Farming Practices- Environment.
World Dairy Summit 2022, which is being held 48 years after India hosted the International Dairy Congress in 1974, was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was accompanied by Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath.
Also present at the summit, NDDB Chairman, Meenesh Shah, talked about the sharp growth of the dairy business by two and a half times to Rs 30 lakh crores as the Union Government promised to further boost the dairy cooperative sector for India’s forward march in the league of leading global economies.
He said, “The current value of Indian dairy business is close to Rs 13 trillion. We expect this to more than double in the next five years and reach close to Rs trillion by 2027.”
While the dairy industry will continue to grow on average at a pace of 15%, Shah predicts that certain of its value-added verticals, such as organic milk, cheese, flavoring milk, lassi, etc., will expand at rates of over 20%. “In the upcoming years, these products are expected to fuel the expansion of the Indian dairy sector," he continued.
