The National Conference on Agriculture – Rabi Campaign 2025 concluded on September 16, 2025 in the national capital under the leadership of Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare & Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The event brought together Agriculture Ministers and senior officials from across the country, who participated in focused discussions aimed at strengthening agricultural strategies for the upcoming Rabi season.

In his valedictory address, Minister Chouhan took a firm stance against the sale of counterfeit or substandard agricultural inputs, including fertilisers, seeds, and pesticides. He announced that stringent legal provisions are being drafted to curb such activities and sought proactive cooperation from state governments in safeguarding farmers from exploitation. “We will not tolerate the sale of spurious products. Protecting farmers is a shared responsibility, and strict action must be ensured,” he stressed.

Chouhan also underscored the importance of responsive support systems, stating that efforts are underway to enhance the effectiveness of Kisan Call Centres, with an appeal to states to establish strong support frameworks to make these centres more impactful. He reiterated the government’s dedication to resolving farmers’ issues promptly and equitably.

On the insurance front, the Minister called for accelerated enrolment under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), urging states to maximise its reach so that more farmers can be protected against crop loss risks. “Every farmer must feel secure. Expanding PMFBY coverage is essential,” he said.

Highlighting the pivotal role of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and state-level agricultural extension systems, Chouhan advocated for their strengthening to ensure the effective transfer of scientific knowledge and best practices to the grassroots level. These institutions, he noted, are essential for modernising Indian agriculture and empowering farmers with practical, field-based solutions.

A major announcement from the Minister was the launch of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, which will begin on October 3, 2025. He appealed to all states and their agriculture departments to actively support this nationwide campaign, designed to implement the “Lab to Land” approach by translating research into practical benefits for farmers on the ground.

Commending the productive deliberations over the two-day conference, Chouhan extended his congratulations to all participating officials and ministers. He expressed optimism that the collaborative decisions made would lead to concrete outcomes during the Rabi 2025–26 season.

The Minister also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his steadfast support to farmers and rural communities. He called upon all stakeholders to extend the benefits of GST reforms to rural areas and encouraged the adoption of Swadeshi (indigenous) products, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision of self-reliant India.

The conference concluded with a collective commitment to work in unity - between the Centre and the States - for the holistic development of Indian agriculture and the welfare of its farmers.
