National Milk Day is celebrated on 26th November every year since 2014 which is the birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien- The Father of White Revolution, and this year is his 100th Birth Anniversary. To celebrate the same, Krishi Jagran organized a live session on “The Contributions of Dr. Kurein to Dairy Sector” on 26th November 2021.
The main purpose of this webinar is to spread awareness about the contributions of Dr. Verghese Kurien, ‘Father of the White Revolution’ & ‘Architect of Modern Dairy Industry’.
The webinar will be moderated by Founder & Editor in chief of Krishi Jagran & Agriculture World, MC Dominic.
He initiated the discussion by commemorating the contributions of Dr. Verghese Kurien as it was his 100th Birth Anniversary. MC Dominic said "Anyone who drinks milk in India must acknowledge Dr. Kurien's contributions and thank him every day as it is only because of him that today, India ranks no 1 in the world for Milk Production".
He then welcomed Krishan Yadav, Chairman, Dabur Hare Kaushal Gaushala to start the program as per Krishi Jagran's tradition of providing the farmers the first platform to voice their opinion, success, and problems.
Krishan Yadav, made all of us remember the "Father of White Revolution in India - Dr Verghese Kurien" by mentioning the many contributions and the awards he received in his lifetime. He also used this platform to raise the problem that cattle farmers like him do not get the proper rates for the milk in the markets much contrary to the premise of Dr Kurien that the farmers must get 50% of the market price of his produce.
President of Indian Veterinary Association & Councilor of World Veterinary Association, Dr. Chirantan Kadian, one of the key speakers of the webinar highlighted all the achievements of Dr Kurien and said – “People conceive Dr. Kurien as a social entrepreneur but in my opinion, he was an engineer who turned the fate of this country. Dr. Kurien is the man who is responsible for White Revolution, introduced women to the Indian dairy sector. Because of him, we turned from a milk deficient state to a milk surplus state and one of the major exporters. He is known as the ‘Epitome of livestock industry’ because of the contributions he made for livestock health and development. Polson dairy was established in 1930 in the Kaira district of Gujarat."
Talking about Dr Kurien, Supern Singh, Head of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, said, "His contribution in dairy sector are unbelievable. He did tremendous work. India is No.1 in Milk production only because of his efforts."
He further said that Gujarat is one the leading states in terms of milk production and there is a lot that other states can learn from it.
During the webinar A N Dwivedi talked about the entire journey of Dr. Verghese Kurien, who is known as the Father of the White Revolution in India, He said that DR. Kurien was a well-known Indian social entrepreneur, who is still famous for his ‘Operation Flood’, which is known as the world’s largest agricultural program.
Dr. Amrish Tyagi, Assistant Director-General, ICAR- Animal Nutrition & Physiotherapy, New Delhi also participated in this webinar & shared his views along with various other speakers.
He started his speech by greeting Krishi Jagran Team and said, “We’ve achieved the quantity of milk production but lacks in quality”. He suggested ‘Milk Fortification’ & ‘Breed Selection’ to improve the quality of milk.
Apart from these, there were some Krishi Jagran Family members like Dr. Lakshmi Unnithan, Editor, Agriculture World, Prasad B Jaware, tractornews.in and Khili Dhawan, FTB Organic also shared their valuable thoughts on the special occasion. Lastly, the vote of thanks was conveyed by Shruti Joshi Nigam, Content Manager Hindi, Krishi Jagran.
