On October 05, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 18th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, directly benefiting over 9.4 crore farmers across India. In a key highlight of the event, the Prime Minister also announced an additional Rs 2,000 crore benefit to the farmers of Maharashtra under the 5th installment of the Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana (NSMNY). About 90 lakh farmers from Maharashtra have been handed financial assistance of approximately Rs 1900 crore under NSMNY. This initiative aims to further empower the farming community by providing financial support to bolster their agricultural productivity and infrastructure.
The event also saw the dedication of several completed projects under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF), a critical initiative focused on enhancing post-harvest management and agricultural infrastructure. Over 10,066 projects have been sanctioned under AIF nationwide, with more than 7,516 projects already completed, strengthening the agricultural value chain and ensuring better storage, processing, and marketing facilities for farmers.
During the program, the government’s efforts under the Central Sector Scheme (CSS) to promote 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) were also emphasized. As of now, around 9,200 FPOs have been established, benefitting 24 lakh farmers, including women and marginalized communities. These FPOs have collectively achieved an annual turnover of over Rs 1,300 crore, further enhancing the resilience and sustainability of Indian agriculture.
About Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana
Under the Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana (NSMNY), annual financial assistance of Rs. 6,000 will be provided to eligible Maharashtra farmers in three equal installments. A Government Resolution (No. Kisani-2023/CR 42/11 A), dated June 15, 2023, was issued to formalize the scheme.
