Padma Raghunathan, Chief General Manager of NABARD, Tamil Nadu said, “National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) will support women self-help groups (SHGs) involved in income-generation activities. They will support them to market their products at exhibitions and meals organized during the festival season.”
NABARD will also give a fillip to rural entrepreneurs and artisans, said Ms. Raghunathan, after inaugurating an exhibition at Thiruvaiyaru Aarathana ground.
The exhibition was arranged to coincide with the Thiyagaraja Aarathana Festival. It features music instruments, handloom silk sarees, laminated photo frames, embroidered sarees, designer blouses, artificial jewelry, beautician products, jute and cloth bags, besides food items and condiments.
Bharathi Foundation is a local voluntary organization, coordinated with NABARD to mobilize the SHGs to display their products.
The course completion certificates accompanied by K. Subramanian, District Development Manager, NABARD, Thanjavur and Ms. Raghunathan were also distributed to beneficiaries of a skill development programme (SDP). It was organized by Schella Foundation at Thiruvaiyaru.
The SDP was sponsored by NABARD. It was aimed at the promotion of garment manufactured by women entrepreneurs using advanced tailoring machinery.
